ReviewHub is a community review platform for goods and vendors in Kenya. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how it is handled.
Who we are

What data we collect and why
1. Account information
When you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account identifier and email address. These are used solely to authenticate you and are stored securely by our backend provider (Supabase). Your email address is never displayed in the app to other users.
2. Display name
You choose a pseudonymous username when you first use the app. This name — not your real name — is what other users see on your reviews. You may change it at any time from your profile.
3. Reviews you write
When you submit a review, we store the text, star rating, price you paid (optional), store or location name (optional), any photos you attach, and consistency or turnaround rating (optional, for vendors and services). Reviews are associated with your account ID internally and displayed publicly under your chosen pseudonym.
4. Photos you upload
Images attached to reviews or listings are stored in our cloud storage. They are publicly accessible via URL to anyone who has the link. Do not upload images containing sensitive personal information.
5. Location data
If you choose to pin the location of a vendor or stall when adding a listing, we store the GPS coordinates you provide at that moment. Location access is requested only when you explicitly use the "Pin this location" feature and is not tracked continuously or in the background.
6. Helpful votes and review requests
We record when you upvote a review or request a review on a listing. This is used to surface the most useful content and is not shared externally.
7. Listing view history
We record which listings you view to support analytics and improve the app's recommendations. This data is not exposed to other users.
8. Push notification token
If you grant permission for push notifications, we store a device token to deliver notifications. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.
What we do NOT collect
- Your real name (we never ask for it or display it)
- Your profile photo (we generate an avatar from your pseudonym)
- Contacts, messages, call history, or any data unrelated to the app's function
- Precise location outside of the voluntary "pin location" feature
- Advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking data
How your data is stored
All data is stored using Supabase, a managed database and storage platform. Data is protected by row-level security policies — every database query is scoped to only the data a user is authorised to access. Images are publicly accessible once uploaded. All other personal data (email, account ID) is protected and not readable by other users.
Sharing your data
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. We may share data only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers: Supabase (database and storage hosting) and Google (authentication) process data on our behalf under their own privacy policies
- Legal obligation: If required by Kenyan law or a valid legal process
- Safety: If necessary to prevent harm to a person or the integrity of the platform
Your rights
Under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and associated data
- Object to how your data is used
- Withdraw consent at any time (e.g. by revoking notification permissions)

To delete your account: Contact us and we will permanently delete your account, display name, reviews, and all associated data within 30 days. Note that reviews you have written may have been seen by others before deletion.
Children
ReviewHub is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
